Psychoeducational Assessments

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by persistent difficulties with attention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity that interfere with everyday functioning. Symptoms vary across individuals and may present differently throughout childhood, adolescence, and adulthood.

Children with ADHD may experience difficulties sustaining attention, following instructions, organizing schoolwork, or regulating activity levels. Adolescents and adults may struggle with time management, organization, forgetfulness, completing tasks, or managing competing demands. With appropriate understanding, accommodations, and support, individuals with ADHD can function successfully across different settings.

At Vandana Psychological Services, we provide comprehensive ADHD assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. Our evaluations consider developmental history, current symptoms, functional difficulties, and other conditions that may contribute to attention and executive functioning challenges.

Our ADHD assessments may include:

  • Comprehensive clinical interviews and developmental history.

  • Standardized questionnaires and rating scales completed by the individual and relevant informants, when appropriate.

  • Assessment of attention, executive functioning, and other cognitive abilities, when clinically indicated.

  • Review of relevant educational, medical, and psychological records.

  • Screening or evaluation for co-occurring conditions and alternative explanations for symptoms.

Assessment findings can help clarify diagnostic questions and inform recommendations for:

  • Medical consultation and treatment planning, where appropriate.

  • Educational and workplace accommodations.

  • Strategies to support attention, organization, time management, and executive functioning.

  • Psychological interventions and other individualized supports.

Our ADHD assessments also consider symptoms of anxiety, depression, and PTSD, when clinically indicated, to support accurate differential diagnosis and appropriate recommendations.

Specific Learning Disorders (SLD)

Specific Learning Disorders are neurodevelopmental conditions that affect the acquisition and use of academic skills, including reading, written expression, and mathematics. These difficulties typically emerge during the school years and may persist into adulthood. They can affect academic achievement, confidence, and everyday functioning despite appropriate educational opportunities and instruction.

Specific Learning Disorders may involve difficulties in the following areas:

  • Reading (Dyslexia): Difficulties with accurate or fluent word reading, decoding, reading comprehension, or spelling. These challenges may interfere with academic performance and confidence.

  • Written Expression: Difficulties with spelling, grammar, punctuation, or organizing and expressing ideas in writing. These challenges may affect academic performance and written communication.

  • Mathematics (Dyscalculia): Difficulties with number sense, memorizing arithmetic facts, calculation, or mathematical reasoning. These difficulties may become more apparent as academic demands increase.

At Vandana Psychological Services, we provide comprehensive psychoeducational assessments to identify Specific Learning Disorders in children, adolescents, and adults. Our evaluations consider cognitive abilities, academic achievement, developmental and educational history, and factors that may contribute to learning difficulties.

Our psychoeducational assessments may include:

  • Standardized assessment of cognitive and intellectual abilities.

  • Academic achievement testing in reading, written expression, and mathematics.

  • Assessment of relevant cognitive processes, such as memory, attention, and phonological processing, when clinically indicated.

  • Review of educational records, developmental history, and relevant background information.

  • Questionnaires and rating scales, when appropriate.

  • Evaluation of other conditions that may influence learning and academic functioning.

Assessment findings can help clarify diagnostic questions and guide recommendations for:

  • Educational accommodations and individualized learning supports.

  • Evidence-based academic interventions and specialized instruction.

  • Strategies to address identified learning and cognitive challenges.

  • Additional psychological, educational, or medical supports, when appropriate.

Our assessments also consider ADHD, anxiety, depression, and PTSD, when clinically indicated, to help differentiate Specific Learning Disorders from other factors that may affect academic performance and to identify relevant co-occurring conditions.

Intellectual Disability (ID)

Intellectual Disability is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by significant limitations in intellectual functioning and adaptive functioning, with onset during the developmental period. Intellectual functioning includes abilities such as reasoning, problem-solving, learning, and judgment. Adaptive functioning refers to the conceptual, social, and practical skills required for everyday life, including communication, social relationships, personal care, and independent living.

The nature and extent of support needs vary across individuals. With appropriate supports and opportunities, individuals with Intellectual Disability can develop skills, participate meaningfully in their communities, build relationships, and experience improved independence and quality of life.

At Vandana Psychological Services, we provide comprehensive assessments for Intellectual Disability in children, adolescents, and adults. Our evaluations consider intellectual abilities, adaptive functioning, developmental history, and relevant educational, medical, and psychological information.

An Intellectual Disability assessment generally includes:

  • Standardized assessment of intellectual functioning.

  • Evaluation of adaptive functioning across conceptual, social, and practical domains.

  • Review of developmental history and relevant background information.

  • Information from parents, caregivers, teachers, or other relevant informants, when appropriate.

  • Consideration of other developmental, psychological, or medical conditions that may affect functioning.

Assessment findings help clarify diagnostic questions, identify individual strengths and support needs, and guide recommendations for educational accommodations, community services, and individualized supports. Assessment reports may also provide documentation relevant to applications for educational, developmental, or disability-related services, subject to the eligibility requirements of the organization.

Our assessments also consider co-occurring conditions, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, and PTSD, when clinically indicated, to support differential diagnosis and individualized recommendations.
