Psychological Assessments
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that may develop following exposure to a traumatic event involving actual or threatened death, serious injury, or sexual violence. Such experiences may include physical or sexual assault, serious accidents, natural disasters, or exposure to violence.
Symptoms of PTSD may include intrusive memories, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance of trauma-related reminders, changes in mood and thinking, heightened alertness, irritability, and sleep disturbances. Children may also express trauma-related distress through changes in behaviour, repetitive play involving aspects of the traumatic experience, or increased separation anxiety.
PTSD can affect emotional well-being, relationships, academic or occupational performance, and everyday functioning.
At Vandana Psychological Services, we provide comprehensive, trauma-informed psychological assessments to evaluate PTSD and related psychological concerns, including assessments for Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC). Our assessments consider trauma exposure, symptom presentation, developmental history, current functioning, and other factors that may contribute to psychological distress.
Our PTSD assessments may include:
-
A comprehensive clinical interview and review of relevant background information.
-
Standardized questionnaires and psychological assessment measures.
-
Evaluation of trauma-related symptoms, including intrusive experiences, avoidance, negative changes in mood and thinking, and heightened arousal.
-
Assessment of the impact of symptoms on relationships, daily activities, and academic or occupational functioning.
-
Consideration of co-occurring conditions and alternative explanations for symptoms.
Our assessments also evaluate relevant symptoms of anxiety and depression to support differential diagnosis and individualized recommendations.
Following the assessment, a comprehensive psychological report is prepared, and a feedback session is provided to review the findings, diagnostic conclusions where applicable, and recommendations for appropriate treatment and support.
Depressive Disorders
Depressive disorders are mental health conditions that can affect an individual's mood, thinking, behaviour, and daily functioning. Common symptoms include persistent sadness, loss of interest or pleasure in activities, fatigue, changes in sleep or appetite, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of worthlessness or hopelessness. In children and adolescents, depression may also present as irritability, reduced motivation, academic difficulties, or social withdrawal.
Depressive symptoms can affect relationships, academic or occupational performance, and overall quality of life. The nature, severity, and duration of symptoms vary across individuals.
At Vandana Psychological Services, we provide comprehensive psychological assessments to evaluate depressive symptoms and related concerns. Our assessments consider emotional, cognitive, behavioural, and physical symptoms, relevant background information, and factors that may contribute to psychological distress.
Our assessments may include:
-
A comprehensive clinical interview and review of relevant history.
-
Standardized psychological questionnaires and assessment measures.
-
Evaluation of the nature, severity, duration, and impact of depressive symptoms.
-
Consideration of relevant co-occurring conditions, including anxiety disorders and PTSD.
-
Review of information from relevant sources, when appropriate.
Assessment findings can help clarify diagnostic questions, identify individual strengths and challenges, and guide recommendations for psychological treatment, medical consultation, and other appropriate supports.
Following the assessment, a comprehensive psychological report is prepared, and a feedback session is provided to discuss the findings and individualized recommendations.
Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders are mental health conditions characterized by excessive fear, anxiety, worry, or avoidance that causes significant distress or interferes with everyday functioning. Although anxiety is a normal response to stressful situations, anxiety disorders involve symptoms that are persistent, disproportionate to the circumstances, or difficult to manage.
Anxiety may present differently across children, adolescents, and adults. Children and adolescents may experience school avoidance, irritability, excessive reassurance-seeking, difficulty separating from caregivers, or physical symptoms such as headaches and stomachaches. Adults may experience persistent worry, difficulty concentrating, avoidance of certain situations, restlessness, or physical symptoms such as a racing heartbeat and muscle tension.
Common anxiety disorders include:
-
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
-
Social Anxiety Disorder.
-
Panic Disorder.
-
Specific Phobias.
-
Separation Anxiety Disorder.
